Your Vaginal Travel Survival Guide (So Thrush Doesn’t Tag Along)

Yeast infections crashing your Euro summer? UTIs tagging along on your beach getaway? Rude. But sadly, pretty common. Changes in climate, food, and routine can throw your hoo-ha into chaos, and just when you were finally relaxing.

So why does it happen?

When you're travelling, a bunch of sneaky changes hit your body all at once. New climates (especially hot and humid ones), different water, stress, plane air, sweaty long-haul outfits, and a sudden spike in carbs (hello, daily croissants) can all mess with the natural balance of bacteria in your vagina. And when that balance gets out of whack, yeast infections (aka thrush) and other vaginal issues can start to make themselves very known.

But don’t stress — in this week's blog, we’ve got easy, no-fuss tips to help you prep before takeoff and stay in balance while you're away. Because nobody wants a raging UTI on day two of their Amalfi itinerary.

Before you go: Pack smarter, not sorer

Let’s get things sorted before your passport even gets a workout:

✅ Book a GP check before you jet

Make sure everything’s in tip-top shape before you leave Aussie soil. If you’re someone who gets vaginal infections often (especially while travelling), ask your GP to recommend a good probiotic you can start taking before and during your trip — ideally one that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. It’ll help support your gut and vaginal flora so your balance stays… balanced.

They can also give you the lowdown on any country-specific health tips or meds worth taking with you. Some places have different bacteria in the water or food that can trigger tummy issues (and downstream hoo-ha dramas).

🧼 Your travel vagina-care checklist:

  • ✅ Thrush treatment (if you’re prone to flare-ups)

  • ✅ Ural sachets (if you’re a UTI girlie)

  • ✅ pH-balanced, fragrance-free feminine wash (pls avoid hotel soap)

  • ✅ Non-refrigerated probiotics

  • ✅ Pads/tampons/period gear (always bring extra!)

  • ✅ Unscented, pH-balanced lube

  • ✅ Condoms

  • Breathable, antibacterial undies — like Vee's bamboo ones 😉

While you’re away: Keep your hoo-ha happy

Here’s your rapid-fire guide to holidaying without the itch, sting, or burn:

1. Keep it breezy down there

Tight, sweaty clothes are not it. Stick to loose, breathable fabrics (yes, even undies) to keep things cool and dry. Fungi and bacteria love heat and moisture, so let your bits breathe. That means skipping the tights or synthetic undies on long travel days, no matter how cute the outfit is.

2. Don’t sit in wet swimmers

As dreamy as post-swim lounging is, staying in damp bathers = prime conditions for thrush. The moisture + friction + chlorine = irritation central. Change out of wet bottoms ASAP and opt for dry, cotton or bamboo undies instead.

3. Antibacterial underwear = your travel MVP

Even if you’re following all the rules, vacation sweat and heat are sometimes unavoidable. That’s why antibacterial undies can offer an extra layer of protection against unwanted bacteria and help lower your chances of infections forming. (Ahem, we know a brand…)

4. Balance the baguettes

We are not here to tell you to skip the Aperol spritz or decline the pasta. But if you’re going all-in on carbs, sugar, and vino (as you should), just balance it out where you can. There’s a strong link between high sugar intake and yeast overgrowth, so throw in some leafy greens, water, and low-sugar snacks too. Hydrate, darling.

TL;DR - don’t leave your hoo-ha behind

Next time you’re packing for your dream trip, don’t just obsess over fitting your entire skincare shelf into a travel pouch. Think about what your vagina needs too.

She’s with you through all the airport dashes, gelato binges, and late-night flings - the least she deserves is a little pre-holiday prep and a breathable seat on the flight.

With this checklist in your carry-on and a few smart swaps in your suitcase, we reckon you’ll keep thrush, UTIs, and down-there drama at an all-time low. ✌️

The only thing radiating on your vacay? You, baby — not your vaginal discomfort.
