4 Must Know Facts About The Clitoris

We’re shining a light on one of the less talked about parts of the female body, the clitoris. This small, yet mighty organ has long been shrouded in stigma, but as you know we’re here to say bye-bye to stigmas and encourage women to get to know their bodies better.

Here are 4 facts that all clitoris owners need to know.

1. The clitoris’s sole purpose is pleasure.

Say hello to your body's pleasure powerhouse, the clitoris. Oddly, the clit can be a bit of an unsung hero in the bedroom due to the belief that vaginal stimulation is the be-all and end-all for reaching orgasm. But, we’re here to tell you that there are more than 8,000 nerve endings in the tip of the clitoris, which is double the number of those in our male counterparts' pleasure parts. This POWERHOUSE body part exists for your pleasure alone.

2. It’s bigger than you might think...

Appearances can be deceiving... the tiny tip of the clitoris is just the beginning. Hidden within, the clitoris can stretch up to a whopping 12cm in length! Not feeling so small now, huh?

FUN FACT: In the early stages of fetal development, the clitoris and penis start as 'twin-like' structures, but around week nine, hormonal and genetic factors decide it's time to embark on their unique paths, resulting in the fascinating differentiation between male and female genitalia.

3. It grows…

Much like the penis, when sexually aroused, blood rushes to the clitoris, causing it to swell and become enlarged. It can swell from anywhere from 50 - 300%! It will also continue to get bigger and bigger as you get closer to the big O. The increased blood flow enlarging the clitoris can also lead to a deepening in the colour of the vulva.

4. It’s very common for women to climax via the clitoris alone.

A very small percentage of women can reach an orgasm via penetrating vaginal intercourse alone. It’s VERY normal for women to only be able to reach orgasm through clitoral stimulation. Additionally, research suggests that the lucky few women who can achieve an orgasm through penetrative sex may still be due to the placement of their clitoris!

Tidbit: Did you know that the word "Clitoris" is from the Greek word for "key"?

Well, there you go. Now we’re all on the same page that the clitoris is not just a small, unassuming organ but a dynamic and pleasurable part of the female anatomy, it's time to celebrate and embrace this wonderful part of our bodies. So, let's bid farewell to stigmas, welcome self-discovery, and empower a more enlightened and liberated understanding of female sexuality.
